Cookies and local storage.
This policy explains how Giftwise uses cookies and similar storage on your device. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy. Last updated 16 September 2026.
Giftwise is run by Coldharbour Tech Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17185625). In this policy, "we" and "Giftwise" mean Coldharbour Tech Limited.
What cookies and local storage are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Local storage is a similar technology that lets a web app save data in your browser. Both are covered by the same rules under UK law: strictly necessary storage may be used without consent, but anything else needs your permission first.
What Giftwise uses
We use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in, to hold your saved gift data so the app works (this stays on your device until you create an account, after which it also syncs to your account — see our Privacy Policy), and to remember your cookie choice so we don't ask again. This is strictly necessary and the app cannot work without it.
Affiliate tracking (Impact) — only if you accept
Giftwise earns affiliate commission. To credit referrals we can load a tracking tag from our affiliate partner Impact (impact.com), from utt.impactcdn.com. It sets cookies and records clicks on outbound affiliate links so retailers can attribute a referral to Giftwise.
This tag is not essential, so it only loads if you choose Accept in our cookie banner. If you Decline, the tag is never loaded and no Impact cookies are set — and the app works exactly the same. The data the tag collects when enabled is handled by Impact under its own privacy policy. It is the only third-party tracker on the site.
What Giftwise does not use
Apart from the optional Impact affiliate tag, we do not use advertising cookies, analytics tools such as Google Analytics, or advertising or profiling pixels. We do not sell your personal data.
Third-party cookies from retailers
Some links on Giftwise are affiliate links to UK retailers such as Amazon. When you click one and leave our site, the retailer may set its own cookies on its own website — that is how a referral is credited. Those cookies are controlled by the retailer under its own cookie policy, not by us. See our affiliate disclosure.
Your choices
On your first visit you'll see a banner with two equal options — Accept or Decline — for the Impact affiliate tag. Essential storage is always used because the app needs it; the affiliate tag is only used if you Accept.
You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's storage in your browser settings, which makes the banner appear again on your next visit. You can also block or delete cookies and local storage through your browser controls, though some features may stop working if you remove essential storage.
